This is an independent research conducted under the support of the Humanities Fellows Program in the School of Arts and Science at the University of Richmond. The research started with an analysis of a Shanghainese musical Myth of Love (爱情神话). Then I delved deeper into the concept of the fourth wall, and how media and communication can shape a theatre piece, conveying themes about culture, race, gender, and other identities.
