One Hope Away Form Home

An autobiographical play written, produced, directed, and performed by Annabelle Zong

Project Overview

One Hope Away From Home is a story about Annabelle (or Xiheng) who migrated 8,000 miles from Shanghai to the U.S., who wanders between different names and different identities, and who unfolds her journey of migration, navigation, acculturation, and generation.

The play is written, directed, and performed by Annabelle, and is an interdisciplinary project between Theatre and Communication Studies, developed from her independent research under the Humanities Fellows Program in 2024. It is brought to life thanks to the creative designs of Colin Heathcott and Abby Ament, the mentorship of Dr. Patricia Herrera and Dr. Greg Cavenaugh, the generous support of the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the encouragement of friends, families, and mentors.
